The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) has launched the first offshore patrol vessel (OPV), BRP Rajah Sulayman (PS-20), in Ulsan, South Korea.
HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) was contracted to construct six OPVs for the Navy, valued at approximately 30bn pesos ($533.67m) in 2022.

According to the AFP, the development “reinforces its dedication to national sovereignty and defence modernisation”.
AFP also noted that BRP Rajah Sulayman is named in honour of an indigenous leader who resisted foreign domination during the pre-colonial era.
The launch ceremony, a naval tradition, was attended by Brawner. and HD HHI chief operating officer and senior executive vice president Joo Won Ho.
