United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) EDGE Group has secured Dh9bn ($2.45bn) naval contract with the Kuwait Ministry of Defence (MOD) to supply FALAJ3 missile boats.

The group will serve as the prime contractor and oversee the comprehensive programme, encompassing the design, construction and trials, along with vessels delivery.

The contract also includes integrated logistics support and in-service support, with EDGE providing the ammunition for the 62 metre vessels.

EDGE CEO and managing director Hamad Al Marar said: “This agreement with Kuwait is hugely significant both in scale and strategic importance. It deepens long-term defence ties between our nations, brings a proven class of advanced vessels into regional service, and reinforces EDGE’s position as a trusted international partner.

“It also reflects the pace of industrial and engineering progress we’ve achieved in just a few years, and our ability to design, build, and deliver complex naval platforms at scale. As we enter a new phase of export-led growth, this programme marks a clear signal of global confidence in what EDGE can deliver.”

UAE’s Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB), a subsidiary of EDGE, has been appointed as the build subcontractor for this project.

The vessels destined for Kuwait are customised to meet the nation’s specific operational needs, featuring high performance, latest combat systems, and improved capabilities to carry out littoral defence missions.

This contract is set to bolster the UAE strategic goals for increasing defence exports and fostering industrial collaboration within the sector.

The UAE Navy also selected the FALAJ 3-class missile boat. ALTAF, the first vessel, entered service in February 2025, demonstrating its suitability in regional maritime conditions.

In April 2025, EDGE secured licence to acquire intellectual property of the Brazilian national anti-ship missile MANSUP extended-range variant, the MANSUP-ER.
